This is a brand new, super modern house tied into the site’s original Victorian façade. The house sits on a dramatic uphill lot between two neighboring buildings, which we approached with a thoughtfully devised strategy to ensure successful site management, staging and access. To start, we lifted up the original façade and started at the back with a new retaining wall, working forward to tie in the new construction.

Beautiful, nuanced finishes reflect our client’s great taste. Figure-matched rift-and-quartered white oak for the drop ceiling and custom cabinetry, and a really nice Poggenpohl kitchen.

In the powder room the two-story structural concrete wall doubles as interior wall surface, which we refined by polishing and installing an embedded faucet to enhance the room’s minimal aesthetic. Radiant heat keeps things comfortable on foggy San Francisco days.
